Identification & Placement Review Committee (IPRC) Meetings:

A number of students who have formally been identified with a special education identification, or are waiting for an initial meeting to review a potential identification, were sent home a parent package regarding upcoming IPRC meetings on either January 24 or January 30. It is important that the invitation to the IPRC is returned along with the completed parent information form as soon as possible to the school office. If you have any questions regarding the IPRC, including scheduling requests, please contact our Special Education Resource Teacher Mrs Jennifer Doyle at the school.

Please know that we complete two rounds of IPRCs at GPS. Those families who engaged in the IPRC process in May/June last school year can expect to recieve an invitation to an IPRC around that time again this school year.

Grade 3 and Grade 6 Mid-Year Assessment:

At the end of Term 1, TLDSB administers a mid-year assessment with all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students. This mid-year assessment is diagnostic in nature, marked and moderated by each individual school team, to check in on student progress toward the big ideas in the curriculum for each respective grade focussing on reading, writing, and mathematics. These assessments are to support school and classroom based planning and programming and have no impact on student marks. Gravenhurst Public School will be administering this assessment during the week of January 20-24, 2023.

February 3 PD Day & Term 1 Report Cards Coming Soon:

The February 3 PD Day is a designated day for educator teams to prepare the Term 1 Report Card. The Term 1 Report Card reflects student achievement of curriculum expectations and/or expectations within the IEP from September to January. The Term 1 Report Card will go home Friday, February 17, 2023. If parents have any concerns or questions about their child’s progress, they are encouraged to reach out to their child’s teacher directly.

YWCA Muskoka Supporting Families Access the Canada Learning Bond (CLB):

Research shows that children who are beneficiaries of RESP’s are significantly more likely to attend post-secondary education. Additionally, eligible families who open RESP’s are more likely to continue to make contributions after receiving the Canada Learning Bond.

A parent is not required to make any contributions to an RESP in order to receive the Canada Learning Bond(CLB). The CLB helps to pay the costs of a child’s full- or part-time studies after high school at:

  • Apprenticeship programs
  • CEGEPs
  • Trade schools
  • Colleges
  • Universities

YWCA Muskoka is assisting families in opening RESP’s either through a financial institution of their choice or remotely through our partner Wealthsimple. This service is completely free of cost. Opening an RESP can be an intimidating task for many people, our mission is to ensure parents feel supported through the entire process.

You can find information about the CLB through the Government of Canada website and through YWCA Muskoka website.
